MARCOR was contracted by a consulting firm to perform lead-containing ceiling demolition at Fort Douglas, Utah. The total area to be demolished included 22,000 square ft. of plaster ceiling. The scope of work was to clean and remove the lights, which would be reused; clean, remove, and dispose of ceiling grid; and demolish, then dispose of the plaster ceiling (lead was present in the plaster as well as the paint). First- and second-floor debris was loaded out through the construction of fully contained waste chutes. Negative pressure was maintained inside of the chutes to aid in dust suppression.

The job was bid as a ten-week project, but due to time constraints, it was reduced to a nine-week schedule. This particular job was sole-sourced to MARCOR due to our demonstrated expertise working in and around historical buildings. MARCOR mobilized a 16-man crew in three days. Since the building was to be reoccupied, the demolition plan had to prevent damage to the walls and carpet and minimize dust. This is worthy of note due to the extensive use of water used to keep the airborne concentrations of lead dust to a minimum. The job was completed ahead of schedule and within budget, with no lost time accidents.
